One of the most common questions I receive is “How can I make my home look great with curtains?”
Well, there is not simply one answer, and I want to share some guidelines now that will help you to choose the right type. That will change your room dramatically in the same way it will make your room scheme.
First things first, consider the ambient and the light conditions of the window. Living room with big glass plans? Transparency? Needs privacy? Extreme solar conditions?
When it comes to bedrooms, blackout curtains are a popular option as they are lined to prevent extra light pouring into the room and spoiling your sleep. Similarly, roller blinds with a blackout lining are another great choice for bedroom windows. There are some combined solutions that are very popular too.
When matching curtains and blinds together, it’s best to decide on the type of blind you want for the space first. The most common styles are roller blinds and venetian blinds as they pair well with drapes and provide a basic, solid block of color to work with. It’s important you pay attention to the color and fabric selections, and how these works together in the room.
Popular blind materials are tend to be timber and aluminium. For a more natural look in the space, timber blinds feature warm colors and pair well with curtains that have the same attributes. Consider a muted shade of your main color with the timber or use the window dressings to introduce an accent color to the rest of the room.
Dont pick the same curtain across the house. When you want to get your decorating sorted quickly, it can be easy to find a decent pair of curtains and use them across the whole house. But, from a design perspective, this can make the spaces seem disjointed and all the decoration set a lot boring.
Be sure to play around with the light each space gets too; this can help you to experiment with neutral fitted sheers on different styles.
Go high and wide. When you hang the curtain on the roof or close to it, and let it fall all the way down to the floor, it alongs the ceiling proportion and creates the perception that the size of your room is bigger. This is perfect if your room is quite small or your ceiling is not that high. A standard size window can be turned into a large one when drapes and blinds are paired well together and your ceiling made to look much taller than it really is.
